Punctuations

Riya Jha

When I write, I always happen to wonder about my obsession with punctuation, it is inadvertently as important to me as the subject itself.
Today, however, it struck me. Could it be something to do with who I am?

And then it dawned upon me,
just how certain punctuation marks have been subconsciously defining life for me,
and thus making repeated and fierce appearances in my writings.

Comma - This is me, taking a pause when a lot is going on, all at one go

Period - Me knowing when to end what is not supposed to last, armed with conviction

Hyphen - Me building bridges supported by silences and connecting spectrums not meant to meet

Inverted Commas - This is me, understanding what matters and believing that truth shall prevail

Exclamation Mark - It is my being able to express any feeling and coming alive each time doing so

Question Mark - Me accepting that it is okay to not know everything and to seek help once in a while

Brackets - Letting the world know there’s a lot about me that is ‘in between the lines’

And my most favorite,

Three Dots (technically called an ellipsis) - They never fail to remind me that all is not over till I decide it is.
